Our Home... our Journey

In this blog, I would like to share my exciting experience towards building our own home. I had written a few notes and saved all my images while the build was taking place which I have put together here. Initially, the thought of building my own home seemed a bit daunting, but eventually I realised it would be me who would have a say in exactly every aspect right from choosing colours to selecting my bathroom tiles to the brick colour, to flooring! Basically, I was indeed designing my home from scratch!

Our MainVue Home - Amalfi Series

Mainvue Floorplan

I just love how this floor plan and how the kitchen is orientated with respect to the living and dining areas. One of the primary reasons for choosing this plan was its spacious master bedroom, the amount of storage space the walk in wardrobe, butler's pantry and walk-in linen provided. It also has a cute window to the powder room which was one on my wish list. This plan stood out from rest of the plans I had seen, suited our needs and was one that fit into our budget at that time.

From this original plan we converted the theatre to my studio/study. I always wanted an area with huge windows where I could spend hours drawing or painting or reading my books! Its an amazing space, actually bigger than one of the bedrooms too!! However, we did delete a bedroom to compensate for a bigger backyard for our kid. I love the alfresco and how the kitchen, living and dining spaces open up to the backyard and give an awesome view of the garden.

The first and most important stage while building your home is choosing the right colours and textures! I went in for a neutral tone, close enough to white! It's hard to imagine this on a much larger scale, hence always select colours that are more soft with light overtones. I chose colours for - the walls, the garage door , the roof and the ceiling, the brick colour, the tiles, carpet colour, texture and design. I have also opted to have wooden window frames and I just love the nude finish that it gives!

My collection at the end of the day, after choosing everything for the exterior and interior of my home!

The structure is up!

Brick by Brick

Its almost done?

Does feel a lot quicker with the pictures all laid out here. But it was a good five months before we could move into our home!

Thank you for letting me share this journey with all of you!
