Basic Home Decor Tips that work!

Having a minimalistic and simple approach is the key to decorating your home.

1. Add one piece at a time and always check whether it goes well with the room and some character to the room.

2. Remember to put a unique or offbeat piece in only if it doesn't hamper the functionality of the room.

3. Always always select a theme and colour scheme for your home and stick to it. When you go shopping keep your theme and colour palette in mind. So when you do add certain decor to any room be it the living room, study, the kitchen or the bathrooms the flow throughout the entire house is consistent and smooth.

4. Remember that the display furniture or decor items at showrooms or shops always appeal to you, however, you need to be mindful to what will suit your home. Always remember the scale - not too big not too small.

Some examples - Hampers are a great idea to have, however, simply having them placed in the living room or the bedroom doesn't really serve any purpose. The best way to use them is to place them in the living room and use it to store all your cushions that you don't use daily.

Candle stands - some of them are small and some big. I have given an idea of the scale in the two images below. Both of them go really well, especially the large candle stand, that sits so well next to the armchair.

Colour me white!!! - Stick to your colour palette or scheme. Remember you can always add a hint of Colour by adding some colourful cushions or silver candle stands, mirror or flowers. One more handy tip - Smaller rooms lighter shades of colour, makes the room look big. For bigger rooms darker shades to make the room more cosy.
