Readers' Choice (Aug) - How to buy a couch?

So here's how it goes, I spent last weekend going through several furniture shops trying to figure out my next couch. My three year old has already started wearing out our current couch and I know soon it will be time to figure out what I want in my living space! Now, I did make a few mistakes when I bought our couch when we moved to our new home. Yes you heard me right I did make a mistake of being confused about my interior style and not listening to instincts! And coincidently enough I had one of my friends shop around for couches at the same time. Her question was - I'm not quite sure what I should by or where I should buy from!

Sharing with my readers this month about what are the Do's and Dont's when you decide to buy a couch.

1. GET YOUR STYLE RIGHT!

The first thing to do is know your interior, if you want a modern or Scandinavian look then pick the styles that compliment it. If you prefer tranditional vintage or shabby chic styles then go for the colours and styles that highlight this. Remember this is one of the most important furniture pieces of your living room and it will define the way your room looks.

LVB Tip - Pay attention to the current trends in your preferred styles and stick to them and you will never get it wrong!.

2. FEATURES THAT YOU DESIRE

Now most of the times depending on the space you have in your living room, you would need to choose movable or modular furniture that can fit or be rearranged in small places. You need to carefully plan and think about functionality before you purchase what you think might look great in the space you have!

LVB Tip - Comfort is a double-edged sword and remember if you are going to spend most nights watching Netflix or movies on your couch then you need to go for a sturdy couch. Sometimes a soft couch wouldn't work well in the long run (read - not good for your back!)

3. THE PERFECT SIZE

When you do go shopping for the perfect couch remember to get your dimensions right. Make sure you don't fill the entire living space with different seating options. Sometimes it's better to go for a three-seater and two-seater as an option rather than one big couch unless you can move it around.

LVB Tip - Measure your living space and envision how the type of couch you pick would fit. I generally mark up the couch on the floor to ensure it does look fit well. Make sure you keep in mind the scale too.
