3 Easy and Simple Tips to Refresh your Kids' Rooms

Its been a really long time since I published a blogpost, but you would know what has been keeping busy all this time - if you have been following me on Instagram. I have been indulging in some DIY soaps and also teachings kids how to draw on my YouTube channel called Learn to Draw! I have several drafts ready to go, but I have been juggling too many things along with work.

This blogpost came about, since I was planning to refresh my son's room as he ventures into junior school next year. Gone are the days of early learning and carefree days spent at child care!

I can now feel that my baby is no longer small as he develops into an independent boy.

So I thought, it's a good time to update his room and move into the next phase of motherhood as he moves into his next phase of school life. Time does fly when you have kids...

Here is how his nursery looked before.

So here is what I did when I made the shift from all the cute baby decor to a tiny boy's room. If you have a tiny girl these tips would work just the same, without spending anything at all.

Again I did not stick to the traditional colours of blues and greys in my son's bedroom, I wanted a good mix of colours rather than sticking to a tone.

I swapped our armchair from the living room to his bedroom and moved the grey one to the living space. We had a small Ikea bookshelf that I added on top of the chest of drawers and it looks just perfect! Both these pieces of furniture were bought when Aiden's nursery was decorated, so repurposing these gives me so much joy. Who says you need to update or buy new furniture when you can make good use of what you have!

LVB Tip - Always buy furniture that has neutral tones tones and such that you can mix and match them or switch them around between rooms.

Let your kids have a go at what they want in their room and allow them to express themselves. Arrange the room in such a way that they can play and study in the same room. Aiden wanted a canopy or tent in his bedroom, so we found something that did not utilise any extra floor space and did not cost us a single dollar! A good DIY always works.

Here's what I did - I used one of our unused curtains and converted that in to a little canopy! It hangs easily over the bedhead and the best part is, the curtain loops are used to hang all the tiny soft toys. Doubles up for storing soft toys and also looks cute! Aiden loves it and has been reading his story books under his new canopy. At night he collects his army of soft toys and snuggles under his tent.

LVB Tip - Get your kids to help you when you shift and move things around. Actively listen to them, accept their ideas and have fun!

I have been collaborating with Photowall for quite sometime, the lovely wallpaper used in Aiden's room is just superb! And this time around I wanted something to refresh Aiden's room without changing it too much and I absolutely love our recent purchase of this cute lion! Aiden just adores this cutie! We have clubbed the pictures together and he loves calling this his "jungle" theme.

With each passing year I update the wall hangings with Aiden's drawings, new pictures (based on his mood and current fixation) and some motivational words.

LVB Tip - You need to rearrange or swap a few pictures, not all. The frames can remain the same all you do is change the pictures in them. There are heaps of free online pictures, cartoons that you can print and frame.

For LVB readers and followers a 25% discount code is available at Photowall, use the discount code lavillablanche25. This offer is valid until the 20th of December 2020 just in time for Christmas!

Hope you like this simple makeover and I hope this gives you some tips and tricks when you decorate or refresh your kids' room. We had lots of fun and Aiden now loves tidying his much loved room.

Write the next one soon.
