Have you had to hurriedly tidy up and make your room look good almost instantaneously? Have you ever wondered if you could freshen up your home without having to break the bank? Previously, I shared a few home décor or design mistakes that you could avoid and have received requests to talk about quick fixes that are easy DIY jobs that anyone can take up to transform your home.
I have tried these myself and figured out some easy ways to transform the look of my rooms without having to spend too much time and without having to work too hard on getting the room to look just right!
Here are some handy tips the LVB way!
1. WALL HANGINGS
Take down all your existing art work and wall hangings and start all over again. Move them to other walls or a different room, only if they would suit that room. Plan your room setting around the art work, only if your furniture can be placed with respect to them. Maximize light in a darker room by hanging a framed mirror directly opposite the window.
LVB Tip – Place your mirror in spaces such as a passage to give an illusion of a larger space. Or just arrange your picture frames on a cute stool!
2. PAINT
If you are adventurous enough to get your hands dirty then this is certainly the way to go! Adding a new coat of paint to your walls can make a world of difference! Painting a room or a wall is a sure way of making that instant change and is a well-known formula used whenever you need to have a room makeover. I would personally paint just one wall and make it a focal point of my room. Add some shelving and some décor and voila you have a renewed look. The other way to add some colour is to paint bookshelves or furniture that can change the look of the entire room, rather than walls! Spruce up your entrance by painting your front door a cheerful colour.
LVB Tip – When in doubt use a lighter colour tone. If you are not a painter, then wallpaper is the way to go!
3. EDIT
A simple yet effective way to rearrange or organise your home décor is to remove them or pack them up and then arrange them in a different way. This is my way of cleaning up or tidying up. Change their location and put them where they would have the most impact. Or simply remove them, sometimes it’s good to be a little minimalistic.
LVB Tip – Less is always more.
4. RE-TILE
Re-tile your kitchen backsplash or laundry. I wouldn’t re-tile completely, unless I have to change my tile colour or freshen the kitchen up. Instead, I would remove just a few tiles and add hand-painted ones with unique design so it breathes new life into the existing tiles. A very cost effective way to change the way your kitchen looks!
LVB Tip - I would advise a bit of caution when you add few tiles to the existing mix, be careful of making it suit your décor theme, before you get all excited and add something that looks completely odd.
5. RE-ARRANGE
I have two particular furniture configurations to my living room that change when the season changes. I have a summer look and a winter look. You must be wondering what that is? Well, I can tell you it’s by far the easiest way to transform a room. Just move your furniture around and it does make a difference! For my summer look – my couch is kept away from our set of bi-fold doors. This arrangement lets me open the doors up into our alfresco and a direct view at our garden on a warm summer day. For my winter look – my couch gets placed near the fireplace and beside the bi-fold, so that way we have a cosy and closed up space for winter!
LVB Tip – Always have movable furniture, which is not too bulky so you can change the configuration of your room anytime. Having fixed furniture can hinder the way you organise your spaces.
