Readers' Choice (Jun) - How to choose white paint for your walls?

Are you renovating? or have you just bought a home and are super excited on getting on with painting your walls so you can move in and decorate? I have been in those shoes and was so excited when I planned my home that I never realised that choosing a simple white colour for my walls lead to the biggest dilemma of my life! Yikeess.. It's so confusing!!! I never knew so many white tones existed ever!!

I have a client who's currently renovating their home and have asked me - "Shirin, how do you choose white paint for your walls? We were gobsmacked by the number of shades in white and were simply confused!"

So without much adieu I'd like to share with what seemingly fits with La Villa Blanche in so many ways! How do you really decide which shade or tone of white suits your walls? How do you choose then?

Vivid White Paint

1. TONS DE BLANC

How do you chose the right white tone ? If your home welcomes the morning sun through the windows then choose a colder tone which hints towards a lighter grey. If your room seems a bit dark or has fewer windows then a brighter or warmer white would be preferred.

LVB Tip - A perfect white colour does not exist! You have to pick the tone that you love and imagine looking at a vast expanse of white all over your home! If you love it then it's perfect for you.

2. TEST IT ON YOUR WALLS

Now, you see a lot of shades, you love a few and you are absolutely sure of the ones that don't appeal to you! What do you do next? Having those colours displayed on a sample colour chart or swatches isn't good enough. You need to take home sample pots that will give an idea of how the colour really looks on your walls and under different light conditions.

LVB Tip - I wouldnt suggest using Brush out boards, I would suggest trying the paint directly on your walls!

3. MY TOP PICKS IN WHITE

Deluxe offers a wide range of whites and here are the ones I love the most!

1. Antique White U.S.A.®

2. White on White™

3. Vivid White™

4. Lexicon® Quarter

LVB Tip - Remember even white paint colours have warm or cold undertones! Hence, make sure you have the right colour that suits the style you opt for your home. Warmer whites work well with traditional interiors whereas cooler tones work well for Scandinavian or more modern styles.

Each month, I pick a topic suggested by my readers or clients and write about a particular theme or style and share with all of you what I love about it and how to incorporate these into your home or how to adopt these into your existing styles.

After a long hiatus, here's me promising some more posts coming your way this month and if you do follow me on Instagram you must have noticed how my home looks now (not great at all)!

xoxo
